The Danger of the Comfort Zone
2024/06/20
Change is uncomfortable, it brings insecurity and anxiety, but it's necessary! We only grow out of our comfort zone!Taking care of your diet, exercising, leaving behind what isn't good for you or improving what is already good for you, starting something new, working on the necessary changes in your life... These are the wishes of many different people. But often something that seems so simple to decide on turns out to be very difficult to do. When it comes to action, to having the attitude to carry it out, we fail. Why is that? The answer is quite simple: because whatever the change, it forces us out of our comfort zone! Generally speaking, throughout our lives we settle down and create our refuge. We get used to a certain routine, we conform to a certain way of life, whether in the family, social or professional environment. We define what we call our ‘comfort zone’. However, modern life is extremely dynamic. As a result, we need to continually adjust in order to adapt to the changes that occur. Change is uncomfortable, it brings insecurity and anxiety, but it's necessary! That's why you have to be ready and prepared for the new challenges that arise every day. Of course, with changes as rapid as those required of us today, insecurity is the rule. We can't count on stability in social, professional or business relationships. New developments emerge all the time. We have to keep up with inevitable progress, which is occurring at an ever-increasing speed. And this often takes us off the ground and robs us of our sense of security. But if we want to learn or change something, we have to leave the known and venture into the unknown. This carries risks, of course, because we don't know what's coming or whether we'll be able to control the situation. When we leave our ‘broad’ comfort zone, we enter terrain that we haven't mastered and we have the feeling that we will lose control of things. As a result, the natural tendency is to continue in the usual day-to-day routine, immersed in a situation that we imagine we control. This is why we have to bear in mind that our personal development and self-confidence are closely related to leaving our comfort zone. In order to grow and make the most of life's opportunities, we have to leave the situation in which we feel comfortable. In order to advance more efficiently in our personal growth, we need a good dose of confidence, boldness and determination, in order to get out of what is familiar, habitual and automatic. Personal growth only happens outside of your comfort zone! As long as you stay in your comfort zone, you won't be learning or growing. You'll do what you've always done, and that way you'll only get what you've always had. You have to do the things you're not doing at the moment in order to have the opportunity to evolve. Analyse all your achievements in life and realise that you probably only got a different and significant result when you did something new. Yes, new is scary, but it's what will lead you to success. Always remember this quote from Steve Blank, a highly successful writer and entrepreneur: ‘Great entrepreneurs are comfortable being uncomfortable.’ So if you really want to grow, leave your ‘comfort zone’! |
