Team work

When a leader manages to get his team members to act harmoniously, it can be said that he has managed to form a real team and not just a group.

A real team is basically built by focusing on two main areas: Humanised Relationships and a Sense of Compatible Values that lead everyone in the same direction.

The sense of values has to be compatible between team members, leadership and the company itself. Nobody can feel an effective part of a team that has different values and orientations to their own.

This means, right from the start, making an appropriate selection of the people who will make up the team. Although it may seem a bit radical, you have to admit that some people will never belong to certain teams. That's why it's essential to correctly select not only the team member, but above all the employee that the company is going to hire.

Once the hiring process has been carried out in the most appropriate way, i.e. starting from the initial condition that the company's employees have and uphold the same values as the organisation, it is then possible to work on characteristics, attitudes, preparation, attitudes and everything else necessary to make the relationship between employees as human as possible. This is how you build cohesive groups that truly function as a team in pursuit of the goals you want to achieve.

Within these humanised relationships, I'd like to mention in particular taking care with some key attitudes and postures. I would emphasise that this must be practised by everyone, whether they are simple team members, leaders and managers or even top executives. After all, humanising relationships has to be one of the guidelines for all companies seeking success today.

Among these attitudes and postures that contribute to having real teams, I would highlight the following:

1. Always seek feedback

  • Between employees, from leader to employee or from employee to leader, feedback is an extremely valuable tool so that each professional has other people's perception of their performance and can make the necessary corrections so that their own results and the team's results are achieved.

2. Commit to your work

  • Being committed to your work goes beyond just getting involved in its activities. Commitment in the business world or in your work requires genuine passion for what you do and a lot of dedication.

3. Make things clear

  • Disagreements between team members can bring down the whole joint effort. So, whatever the mismatch between team members, take action to clear things up.

4. Praise the work of others

  • Make use of the power of praise and show your appreciation for the good work done by your colleagues, leaders and subordinates. Everyone needs to feel appreciated and know that their efforts have been noticed.

5. Try to add something to the group

  • Don't be just another member of the team. Think and act in a way that makes it clear that you are in the group to add something and help make a difference.

6. Promote positive and motivating attitudes and thoughts

  • Positive and motivating thinking, accompanied by corresponding actions, is the most effective weapon on the road to personal and professional success. Make this attitude a commitment in your daily life.

7. Maintain a pleasant atmosphere and good relations

  • Always make a point of being the person who takes the first step to clear up any misunderstandings and re-establish a good working environment.

8. Take care of the well-being of all professionals

  • People need to feel good and safe in their environment. Therefore, in order to have a cohesive, functioning team made up of satisfied professionals, try to maintain the well-being of your employees, partners and leaders, always treating them in a humanised way.

9. Partnership and sensitivity with the whole team

  • Coldness and hierarchical imposition in relations with employees no longer have a place in today's leadership proposal. Always try to promote more partnership, sensitivity and involvement among the whole team.

10. Practise empathy

  • Knowing how to put yourself in the other person's shoes helps maintain healthy relationships. At work, this trait is increasingly valuable, as it is fundamental to teamwork. An empathetic person is more connected to those with whom they communicate.

11. Being passionate about being part of the group

  • A passionate professional becomes committed to everything they set out to achieve. They wear the shirt of the company, the team and the projects, become disciplined and objective, don't make excuses and always assume their responsibilities. They love what they do and seek results with competence and dedication.

12. Being trustworthy and able to rely on others

  • We need to create a working environment and procedures based on mutual trust, so that we can rely on others to do high-quality work on time. In the same way, we also have to become that person that everyone can trust.

13. Being respectful

  • You must avoid any abuse in relationships within a team. If disrespect does occur, it must be dealt with immediately.

14. Having a job that makes sense

  • It's very important that professionals work on something that is personally important to them. You can't really give yourself to something that doesn't make sense in your life.

15. Valuing co-workers and colleagues

  • Another fundamental point in teamwork is to value your collaborators, partners, leaders and subordinates. To do this, you need to establish more humane ways of relating at all levels of the company.

Organisations are looking for balanced professionals with qualifications, good self-esteem and a genuine interest in having a good relationship with their team.

Of course, many professionals find it difficult to work as part of a team, but everyone, at some point in their career, will have to deal with co-workers, subordinates and bosses.

With this in mind, in order for your professional career to evolve, you need to invest seriously in training to make your teamwork the best it can be.

Remember, your success depends entirely and exclusively on you! But knowing how to work in a team is fundamental to achieving that success!
