Understanding the Art of Selling
2024/06/03
Selling is an art and knowing how to apply this art in such a way as to make the negotiation effective is one of the biggest challenges facing salespeople today. To put it bluntly, we have customers who are eager to consume, but we also have competition like no other in history. Today there are many cutting-edge companies offering high-quality products and services. And the difference between those who actually sell their product lies in the professional quality of those who dedicate themselves to the art of selling. The anxiety to close deals in this very competitive market has led to a distortion of the values of what can be called real selling skills. And the consequent creation, over the years, of a veritable army of repeaters of pre-established scripts. And even the formation of mistaken beliefs about the art of selling. Practically speaking, it's becoming increasingly clear that in order to achieve the results sought in today's market, you need much more than just selling: you need to be passionate about the art of selling! After all, selling is essential to life itself, whatever your profession. The Art of Selling You may have noticed that among all the men and women who excel in their professions, those who are recognised as the best, those who are acclaimed by the media and, above all, those who are highly successful are those who are truly passionate about what they do. That's why you need to bear in mind that falling in love with sales will lead you to greater fulfilment, not only in your professional life but also in your personal life. For as long as there has been a world, the art of selling has been part of human nature. It's the art of convincing the other person that what you're offering is best for them (this argument is the only way to get them to buy what you want to sell them). That's why we need to humanise the process of selling! We urgently need to realise that we are all salespeople in every activity we do. And that the best way to live is to have a passion for the art of selling. That's how we can achieve the best results.
Even so, incredible as it may seem, despite selling being the most promising and profitable art on the planet (in financial terms and also in terms of personal satisfaction), it's common to find people who, when asked about their work or their profession, are embarrassed, ashamed and even humourless when answering that they are salespeople. Sometimes the impression is that being a salesperson is the only thing left for some professionals and that they do it out of obligation and out of sheer need to survive. This is a big mistake on the part of those who think pejoratively about this noble profession. All the successful men and women in the world are effectively salespeople, and not only that, they are the best salespeople there are! No matter what industry they work in, they know how to sell themselves and their services or products. And if they've got where they are, it's for one reason: all of them, without exception, are passionate about what they do! They all have a passion for selling!
I suggest you watch recorded interviews of some of the world's most successful personalities, such as Walt Disney, Roberto Irineu Marinho Filho and Silvio Santos, and realise how they narrate, with enthusiasm, pride and a sparkle in their eyes, details of their work, how they achieved their victories and how they always believed passionately in what they did and what they sold. Perhaps you don't even have to look for famous people. Stop for a moment and think about the people you know, be they relatives, neighbours or friends, and look among them for those who are successful in their lives and professions. I'm absolutely certain that if you analyse these people, you'll realise how happy they are with what they do and how proud they are to talk about their activities. In other words, you'll realise that these people do their jobs with passion. And they sell what they do with passion. So now you know that you have to be passionate about sales, but you may still have one question left: How can I fall in love with the art of selling?Falling in love with selling is purely and simply a question of optics. The way we see things is what dictates how we will do them, or how we will accept them in our lives. By thinking that the act of selling is the means that will lead you to achieve everything you want, whether for yourself or your family, your view of the art of selling will improve greatly. From there until it becomes a genuine passion for what you do is just a matter of time and dedication! Make the pleasure of sales your main reason for growing and getting the recognition you deserve as a competent and successful professional. Loving what you do really works! Everyone in the world has the chance to be successful and happy. But only those who are passionate about their work can get there. And those who are passionate about the art of selling get there faster and go further! |
